Make Way For Electricity

I had the guy from Fortis BC come out to give me a quote for bringing electricity in to the property. The main power lines are right on the highway, so it wasn't that difficult. (Not difficult maybe, but hugely freakin' expensive... almost $8K). Once I decided on the best route to the highway, he told me I'd have to clear the right-of-way for the power lines. "No big deal" he said, pointing; "Just cut down those trees over there."... like he figured I knew what I was doing.

Some of them were small enough to just push over with the tractor, but several weren't. One of them was an old dead poplar (or birch maybe?) about 50 feet tall with a 2 foot diameter. I'd cut down a few small trees before, but nothing like this.
It was rather unnerving work, but I managed to cut through it and have it fall in the right direction. It broke into three pieces when it fell. I'm guessing it would have weighed somewhere around 2000 lbs.

Basement Excavation

I've started to dig out the basement now. Odd as it seems, it turned out to be a real challenge to find a place to put all the dirt.
