Drilling The Well

The friendly and helpful guys from JR Drilling came today to drill the well. My neighbours in the surrounding area had found water at depths of 50 - 70 feet, so I expected to find it at about the same depth.

The guys drilled and drilled and drilled... all the way down to 180 feet... before they hit the jackpot. At 18 gallons per minute, it should provide me with all the water I'll ever need.

This is all that sticks up out of the ground when they're finished. I put some boulders around it so nobody runs over it. Now I just need to go find a pump with a l-o-o-o-n-g water pipe on it.

Temporary Power Pole

This is a temporary power pole that was lent to me by the owner (hi Jeff) of the Selkirk Motel in Salmo. It was a bit of a monster to put up, but I got it set into the ground eventually. At the electrical inspector's request I had to replace the brackets holding up the mast and also replace a non-GCFI recepticle with a GCFI receptacle. Now it's good to go, and I just have to wait for Fortis to bring power to the property.

Basement Excavation Finished - Again

There is a mature fir tree at the back of the building site that is quite close to where the house will be. I didn't want to take the chance of having to cut the tree down, so I decided to move the house about 4 feet south in order to clear the tree. No big deal, it just meant a couple more days excavation work at the front side of the house.

Forest Fires

The Pend D'oreille forest fire got to within 8 kms of the property. The smoke was thick in the air.

Still More Driveway Work

This work is coming along very slowly. The roadbed is full of rocks, stumps, logs, and old ties.

In the center of this picture is an old stump. It was 12 feet long and took me almost three days to get out.

More Driveway Excavation

Although I had already taken some of the driveway down to the level of the yard before, now I have to take more of it down in order to provide access to where I need to drill the well.
