Dormer Shingling Finished

I finished the shingling on the front dormer today. Shingling the valley and the dormer peak are the most time-consuming pieces, so now that all that is done it shouldn't take long to finish up the front roof.

Change Of Subject

I've been spending a bit of time in the evenings working on my rough plumbing. The first order of business is to build the DWV (drain/waste/vent) system.

I'm using the black ABS pipe that is very common in residential construction in this part of the world. The pipe and fittings are glued together with a solvent cement that fuses the pieces together. It's easy to work with, but you have to work quickly.

Once you apply the cement and join the pieces together, you have only two to three seconds to get them aligned. After that, there is no forgiveness... they are s-t-u-c-k! If they aren't right, you throw them away. (Yes, that IS experience talking.)

Shingling Progress

I've started working my way down the last bit of the roof on the front of the house.

Rake Rafter Up

I've got the rake rafter up and the roof sheathing trimmed on the west end now. This one was lots of fun. When I was up on the roof I had to lean over the edge to my left. I'm right-handed... and definitely not ambidextrous.

Shingling Update

I've finished shingling down between the dormers on the front of the house and I've got the work platforms set up so that I can finish the shingles on the left side of the roof. The end is in sight.
